Zero energy means that no additional energy is needed for heating. The house is heated only by the sun and the people who live in it. A ventilation and heat exchange system constantly freshens the air. Heat exchange ensures that thermal energy stays in the house in winter and is carried outside in summer. In addition, the environmentally friendly technical installations include solar cells for heating water and generating electricity. As a result, the house is almost completely independent of the power grid.
The modern appearance of the house reflects its modern technology. The façade cladding with its corrugated profile, the striking, contrasting colours blue and yellow and the tasteful combination of wood and steel on the balconies and terrace give this house an avant-garde look.
This design can be realised in many versions - from detached and semi-detached houses through clusters and housing schemes. All residential rooms face the sun and feature large glass windows on the southern side. South-sloping roofs and porch roofs permit active use of solar energy.
Indoors, the house offers all amenities and generous space. The large French doors on the south let daylight flood every corner of the house. The ground-floor ceiling features visible wooden beams, and warm wood tones were generously used in the accoutrements and fittings.
The house received the Eurosolar Prize for its stringent adherence to ecological principles. The futuristic architecture received the prestigious International Design Prize of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
